Journalist Andy Brassell has highlighted why Manchester City are reportedly keen on signing Josko Gvardiol.
It has recently been reported that the Manchester club are preparing an official transfer offer for the RB Leipzig defender, who the German side apparently want €100m (£86m) for.
With that in mind, the topic of City potentially getting their hands on the Croatian has come up, leading to one journalist sharing some details on what has led to the European champions wanting to add him to their ranks.
Journalist highlights why City want Gvardiol
Speaking on talkSPORT, Brassell said this about Gvardiol and what he’d be able to offer the Citizens should he find himself signing for the club this summer.
He said: “The fact that Gvardiol is someone who is extremely versatile, he can play left-back, left-centre-back, left in a three and you’ve got to add the fact that if everything goes right, as we expect it to go and he avoids injuries, he’s going to be one of the best defenders in the world for the next eight, nine years, which I think is huge for City as well.”
In addition to being versatile, the 21-year-old showed throughout his latest Bundesliga campaign another factor that may have caught the attention of Pep Guardiola.
Specifically having featured in 30 league games for Leipzig, the centre-back ended the season with the highest passing accuracy percentage (89.1%) out of players in the squad that attempted more than two passes.
Bearing in mind how City ended the previous Premier League campaign with a higher passing accuracy percentage (87.3%) in the division, this shows why they may want to have someone that is clearly very comfortable on the ball in their squad.
Having also made a name for himself following his efforts for Croatia in the previous World Cup, this further highlights what sort of talent City could be getting their hands on.
With all of that in mind, as well as his young age, if the European champions were able to land a deal for Gvardiol this summer, this could end up being a very smart bit of business from them.
