Martin Keown has dropped a claim regarding the announcement of Jurgen Klopp’s upcoming departure from Liverpool and the impact that could have on Manchester City.
Earlier today, it was announced by Klopp in a video posted on Liverpool’s official Twitter account that he would be leaving the club at the end of the season.
This then quickly led to one pundit sharing his thoughts on the matter and how this news could affect Pep Guardiola and City.
Keown says Klopp announcement will add pressure to City

Speaking on talkSPORT, Keown had this to say about Klopp’s announcement and what it could mean for City and Guardiola.
He said: “It’s because it’s at the core of what this man is. It’s about truth, honesty. And if you look at the bigger picture I think it’s better the way he manages, with emotion, to get it out there.
“I have seen this with [Arsene] Wenger, he never made massive announcements, but he never hid anything and sometimes I thought he should. It brings more from the rest of the group.
“He wants it out there and I think it will work and I think it puts Pep and Man City under huge pressure, the energy it will draw from this team.”
Since being appointed as Liverpool’s manager back in 2015, the German has overlooked 464 games in total across all competitions, winning 288, drawing 96 and losing 88.
Having only won one Premier League title during his tenure at the Merseyside club, it’s safe to say that the current crop of Liverpool players will now be desperate to win it again this season and allow Klopp to leave the club on a high note.
This makes it easy to see why Keown thinks this announcement could add more pressure onto City, who are on their own path to potentially make history and become the first top-flight side to win the Premier League title four times in a row.
However, given how many trophies they’ve won under Guardiola, it’s clear that City and used to having pressure on them and being able to overcome that pressure.
