Ruben Dias has now shared what he found difficult about joining Manchester City from Benfica in 2020.

The 26-year-old made the comments when speaking to the Official Man City Podcast.

So, what did Ruben Dias find tough about joining Manchester City? Let’s take a look…

Ruben Dias on Manchester City

Well, the Portugal international arrived at the Etihad Stadium back in September 2020 after Manchester City and Benfica agreed a £65m deal.

However, Dias has now admitted that he found it hard to leave Lisbon behind.

The Manchester City No.3 said: “Right now, I’m very comfortable with myself. I enjoy the Club, I enjoy the city, I enjoy my home. I feel at home.

“It was easy to come in the sense of the football reason but in the sense of abdicating my whole life in Lisbon which is, for me, my one and only paradise it’s not easy. You lose a lot of what’s your normal day but I always say it and I really go by it, if you’re happy at work you can be happy wherever.

“With time you just start to know the city better and today I can say I really feel comfortable in Manchester.”

Dias – who has recently been criticised by Anton Ferdinand – certainly did not show any signs of homesickness in his debut campaign at Manchester City.

The Amadora-born defender won the Premier League Player of the Season award and was also named FWA Footballer of the Year following his immense 2020/21 season, in which he lifted the Premier League and the League Cup.

Manchester City struck gold

It is genuinely hard to believe that Dias is still only 26 years of age.

The Portuguese colossus plays with the experience of a 35-year-old at the heart of Manchester City’s backline, and he could still move into another gear when he reaches the age of 28 or 29, which is usually a central defender’s prime.

Of course, £65m was a lot of money to spend, although Dias has proven to be worth every penny of that sizeable investment.
