‘I can see’: Martin Keown reckons ‘magnificent’ Man United star could be a problem for Man City this weekend

Pundit Martin Keown has suggested that Marcus Rashford could be a threat to Manchester City in this weekend’s Premier League clash against Manchester United.

Both sides are heading into this match at Old Trafford off the back of midweek Champions League victories, with City beating Young Boys 3-1 in Switzerland and United sealing a 1-0 win over Copenhagen at home.

Looking ahead to the showdown, one pundit has had his say on the game and even highlighted one United player that Pep Guardiola’s side may need to keep a wary eye on.

Speaking on talkSPORT, Keown had this to say about how he feels Sunday’s derby will go.

He said: “I can see them winning 3-1. Man United might grab a goal, Rashford is in good form right now. He looked like he was for England. But you want to see more, [Scott] McTominay is coming to the rescue far too often for them.”

Having started all nine of United’s league games in this campaign, the winger has scored one goal and delivered one assist, featuring as a left-midfielder, left-winger and as a centre-forward on several occasions.

Even though the attacker hasn’t been particularly potent in front of goal this season, Rashford has had more shots at goal (33) and made more progressive carries (39) than any other United player.

This shows that not only is the Englishman, who has been hailed for his “magnificent” efforts for England by journalist Ben Jacobs, someone who can move the ball forward, he can also be a nuisance for opposition goalkeepers.

Also, as Keown mentioned, the fact that McTominay has scored three goals in his two previous league appearances suggests that he is also someone that City will need to be wary of if he plays.

Moving forward, with the Citizens having the best defensive record in the league, this should make them confident that they can deal with United’s attacking threats and pick up a positive result on Sunday.
