Elano has said that he could potentially talk Neymar into a transfer to Manchester City in the summer.
The Sky Blues cult hero made this claim while speaking to the Brazilian media, as relayed by Metropoles.
With Neymar contracted to PSG until 2025, Elano could well be the answer to him potentially eyeing a transfer to Manchester City, as he could perhaps operate in the advanced midfield role Ilkay Gundogan has been, who could leave the club as well, according to Jack Gaughan due to being offered a one-year deal instead of a two-year contract.
Elano says he could talk Neymar into Manchester City transfer
While the Brazilian great’s exit from the World Cup has perhaps defined his current season, it would be easy to forget that he has enjoyed yet another unreal personal campaign.
The 31-year-old has registered 18 goals and 17 assists in all competitions, whilst having started only 26 games this season due to injury.
As Neymar has been rumoured to be set to leave PSG, Elano has said he could persuade him into accepting a transfer to Manchester City.
“If I had that strength, I would want him to go to Manchester City. It would be good for him to work with [Pep] Guardiola, I think I would give advice, I wanted him to go to City. I can try to do that, because of our friendship, but it’s not that simple.”
Neymar is still elite but there are some red flags
A majority of Manchester City fans across the planet will likely be buzzing if a mega-transfer for Neymar went over the line and would remain eternally grateful to Elano.
While the treble winner is still an elite player, his injury record has remained extremely unreliable at PSG and as he grows older, it is only going to worsen.
As Neymar is expected to perhaps be the Premier League’s highest-paid player if he were to join City, his availability or lack thereof for a chunk of the season would likely put the club off.
In terms of the former Barcelona wide attacker’s profile, there is no questioning that he would be a man possessed under Pep Guardiola.
But the injuries when taken into context with his likely wage demands make this move one that is better yet avoided.
