Manchester City have beaten BSC Young Boys 3-0 in the Champions League tonight – and Rio Ferdinand raved over Phil Foden after he scored a brilliant goal in the first-half.
City have secured safe passage to the last 16 and it was a very comfortable evening at the Etihad Stadium.
Pep Guardiola made a few changes to the team that started against Bournemouth at the weekend, with the likes of Rodri and Bernardo Silva rested.
City dominated the game as expected.
Erling Haaland broke the deadlock from the penalty spot, after a really smart turn in the area by Matheus Nunes.
Shortly after, Phil Foden left fans in awe with a superbly taken goal. Jack Grealish picked him out with a fizzed pass, and the England international scampered inside and got beyond the defender before finishing into the far corner.
Haaland then added a brilliant second.
Rio Ferdinand wowed by Manchester City star Phil Foden against BSC Young Boys

At half-time on TNT Sports, pundit Rio Ferdinand couldn’t hide how impressed he was with Foden.
It really was a great goal, and Ferdinand probably spoke for a lot of City fans with his assessment of it.
He said: “I don’t have any more words I can use to describe how much I enjoy watching Phil Foden play. The way he just takes it in and glides past the defender there.
“This isn’t an easy ball to control, he makes it look easy, it skids off the wet surface. His pace, a bit of strength and then the finish and the calmness to slot it past the goalkeeper. That last touch to set himself up for the shot was beautiful there.”
What a player Foden is
Foden was just a joy to watch tonight.
The £225,000-a-week star was excellent on the right side and linked up so well with Kyle Walker behind him and the likes of Matheus Nunes and Rico Lewis inside.
Obviously, City will have much tougher opponents this season. But a professional job was still required tonight, and Foden was very sharp.
He took his goal so well. The balance he showed was absolutely brilliant and arguably, not many players could have scored from where he first picked the ball up.
Pep Guardiola said Bernardo Silva’s second goal against Bournemouth at the weekend was like something you would see from Lionel Messi. You could definitely say the same about this goal from Foden.
