Journalist Andy Brassell has shared some details regarding Bernardo Silva and the possibility of him leaving Manchester City this summer.
Recent weeks have seen the midfielder being linked with a move away from the Etihad Stadium, with the likes of Paris Saint-Germain, Barcelona and Saudi Arabian club, Al-Ahli, interested in him.
With reports also suggesting that the player wants to leave City this summer regardless of which clubs are in the mix for him, this has now led to one journalist sharing some details about the Portuguese international and why he may be looking to open a new chapter in his career.
Journalist shares why Silva may want City exit
Speaking on talkSPORT, Brassell had this to say on Silva and his current situation.
He said: “He’s wanted to go for a couple of years and it’s nothing to do with dissatisfaction about the way he’s treated at City or about the football project.
“I interviewed him a couple of times, he’s just a curious guy, he’s a worldly guy, he’s not a footballer who’s obsessed with money or cars or anything like that, he drove a Smart Car in his first couple of years at Manchester City.
“He’s someone who wants to see the world, I think he’s taken stock a little bit, he’s just got married last week and him and his wife, I think, want to go and see something else.
“The counterpoint to this is after losing [Ilkay] Gundogan, City want to keep him, as you said he’s arguably their most important player.
“If Man City offer him enough money to make him want to stay, like I said, I don’t think it’s all about money, but I think feeling wanted is very important.”
With Pep Guardiola hailing the 28-year-old as one of the best players he has ever coached, this shows how much he would presumably love to keep hold of the player this summer for as long as possible.
Having also picked him in the starting XI for 38 of the 55 games Silva appeared in last season across all competitions, this showcases how important he is for the team, especially because he played in numerous positions.
Taking all of that into account, it’s safe to say that if the midfielder were to walk away from the European champions this summer, it would be a big blow for them and leave a big hole in the team.
Listening to what Brassell said about City wanting to keep hold of Silva, we feel they should be doing all they can to convince him that a change of scenery isn’t necessarily the best option for him right now and should instead focus on continuing being successful with them.
