Pundit Don Hutchison has suggested that Manchester City have what it takes to secure a significant scoreline against Inter Milan in the Champions League final.
The Citizens head into Saturday’s final in Istanbul as Premier League champions and FA Cup winners having beat Manchester United 2-1 at Wembley Stadium last weekend.
With Pep Guardiola’s side now gearing up for their final game of the season, one pundit has made a big claim about how City could fare against their Italian opponents.
Hutchison hints at narrow defeat or heavy victory for City against Inter
Speaking in a recent video on the ESPN UK YouTube channel, Hutchison said this about the final.
He said: “I’m not sitting on the fence here but I had a conversation last night and I only see two scorelines in this game and it could be an Inter 1-0 win if they score early and then completely shut down and go deep and shut up shop. At the same time, it could be 5-0 Man City, so it’s one of them.
“I think Man City will win the game unless I’m seeing something different, as I said if it’s an Inter fast start and Man City look a bit edgy but I just can’t see anything past them.
“I think that the way they’re playing and the way they dismantled Real Madrid was a massive statement win in terms of absolutely [tearing] them to shreds.
“I thought they were comfortable, very, very comfortable against [Manchester] United, I thought they were only in probably second or third gear to win the double so now they’re on for the treble.
“I’d lean heavily towards Man City for sure.”
Having only lost one game since March, this highlights the impressive form City head into the final with and how difficult it will be for Inter to beat them.
However, with the Italian side keeping eight clean sheets across their 12 games that got them to the Champions League final, it’s clear that they will offer Guardiola’s side a challenge.
Across City’s 12 European games this season in their road to Istanbul, they managed to find the net 31 times in total, keeping seven clean sheets in the process.
With all of that in mind, we feel that the final will be a very close game and will reward the side that can be strong in defence and lethal going forward.
