Harry Redknapp has shared his admiration for Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola.

The 76-year-old managed 642 Premier League matches across his managerial career with clubs such as West Ham United, Portsmouth and Tottenham Hotspur among others.

Now though, Redknapp has been sharing his thoughts on one particular top-flight manager and what he admires the most about him.

Speaking in a recent episode of Transfer Gossip Daily, Redknapp had this to say about Guardiola and what he’s done at City.

He said: “I love Pep, I love his personality. He was a great footballer, a fantastic player. I love listening to him, he’s an interesting guy, big personality. But you need good players to be where they are.

“Don’t forget Man City also won the league before Pep. They won the league with [Roberto] Mancini, they won the league with [Manuel] Pellegrini, and they won the league before because they had fantastic players.

“When they go out and buy a player, their recruitment is good but they also buy the best and pay the best but they don’t tend to waste too much money in the transfer market. When they bring someone in, it’s normally someone who is very, very, very good.

“They might have spent £50m, £60m, £70m, £80m on a player but normally, not too many of them that I can think of have been failures, they normally do the job. He gets the best out of them which is what his job is but he does need the tools to work with like anybody.”

Since the 53-year-old was appointed as City’s manager back in 2016, he has overlooked 445 matches in total across all competitions, winning 328, drawing 53 and losing 64.

Having won 14 major titles in the process, including five in 2023 alone, Guardiola is firmly considered to be one of the best managers working in football right now.

In fact, his status was strengthened recently as he picked up the Best FIFA Men’s Coach Award as a result of his previous treble-winning season with the Manchester club.

With all of that in mind, it’s easy to see why Redknapp has praised Guardiola for the way he’s been able to get the best out of his team and get them to become serial winners.
