‘I reckon’… Chris Sutton says he knows what Everton will do against Manchester City this weekend

Chris Sutton has shared his thoughts on how Everton will approach their upcoming Premier League match against Manchester City.

City head into this game after beating Brentford away from home on Monday night. Whereas Sean Dyche’s side previous league game saw them come from behind twice to snatch a point from Tottenham Hotspur with a 2-2 draw at Goodison Park.

With the two sides set to face off against each other at the Etihad Stadium tomorrow afternoon, one pundit has weighed in on how events could pan out, specifically on how the away side will approach trying to walk away with a positive result.

Written in his latest column for BBC Sport where he previewed all of this weekend’s Premier League matches, Sutton had this to say on tomorrow’s game.

He said: “We know what the Everton approach will be, which is to try to hang on in there and counter-attack and try to threaten from set-pieces like they did against Tottenham last week.

“I know from having Kyle Walker in my Fantasy Football team that City seem to concede every week – they have only kept one clean sheet in the league since the end of September – but I reckon it will be a different story on Saturday.

“City should win comfortably. Everton are still in the bottom three and need to pick up some points soon but that is something that is far more likely in their next three games – against Crystal Palace, Brighton and West Ham – than in this one.”

While the Toffees have played one more league game than City, they have only conceded five more goals than them, even though they are currently in the relegation zone.

With that in mind, it’s easy to see why Sutton thinks the Everton players will head into this game at the Etihad hoping that their defence will be strong enough to sustain City’s attacking power and then have enough in the tank to catch them on the counter-attack and potentially score.

However, with Pep Guardiola’s side having more shots on target (149) and goal-creating actions (95) than any other team in the league, this shows how tough it could be for Everton to try and stop the home side from scoring.
