Journalist Graeme Bailey has suggested that Kalvin Phillips could end up at West Ham United this summer, regardless of whether Manchester City sign Declan Rice or not.
It has recently been reported that Arsenal and City are in the mix to secure a transfer deal for the Hammers captain, with the Gunners seeing two bids turned down and the Manchester club now preparing their move.
Another name that has been mentioned in this particular saga is Phillips, who City could reportedly use in a potential swap deal for Rice.
Now though, one journalist has shared some details regarding the City player and his future.
Bailey backs Phillips for West Ham move
Speaking in a recent video on the Chasing Green Arrows YouTube channel, Bailey said this about Phillips and what the summer could for him.
He said: “Even if Rice went to Arsenal, I still think Kalvin Phillips is a huge goal for West Ham. Even if that doesn’t happen, I still think there’s a huge chance he ends up at West Ham.”
Taking into account how West Ham saw a £50m bid for Phillips rejected a few months before he made his £45m move to the Etihad Stadium last summer, this makes it easy to see why the Hammers could look to bring the 27-year-old to the west London club in this window.
Also, even though he recently shared his intention of staying at City next season, if he gets told he’s not likely to be playing regularly, this could make a move to West Ham appealing to him if he’s guaranteed to be a consistent starter there.
In our view, it could be beneficial for all parties, except Arsenal, if a deal is struck between City and West Ham that would see Rice move to Manchester and Phillips, who Pep Guardiola initially claimed would be an “important” player for the Citizens, join David Moyes’ side.
