‘I tell you’… Sir Alex Ferguson’s son says 19-year-old Man City prospect is going to be amazing

Darren Ferguson has given a rave review on one Manchester City prospect.

Darren Ferguson, the son of legendary Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson, is currently enjoying his fourth stint in charge of Peterborough United.

The Posh sit fifth in the League One table and look good to qualify for the play-offs after winning their last four matches.

Peterborough destroyed Northampton 5-1 on Tuesday night and Manchester City loanee Jadel Katongo played a starring role.

The versatile defender picked up two assists and had a strong hand in another of the goals in a fantastic performance.

Ferguson couldn’t praise Katongo enough after the match and believes City have ‘some player’ on their hands.

Darren Ferguson on Jadel Katongo

Speaking to the BBC Cambridgeshire Sport, Ferguson said: “Yeah and he’s improving, there’s no question.

“He’s not a right-back, he’s a centre-half really and we’ve played him in midfield, we’ve played him hardly at centre-half funnily enough.

“But he understands the role better. He knows when to go outside, when to come inside.

“I thought he was brilliant. That cross was unbelievable, fantastic cross for the first goal.

“He did a similar thing against someone else so you can see he’s improving in that position but he’s only 18.

“I mean, this is his first loan, he’s going to be some player, I tell you.”

Another exciting Man City prospect

It looks like City have produced yet another really exciting prospect from their conveyor belt of talent.

Katongo joined Posh on loan in the summer but had to bide his chance for a real opportunity in the side.

However, the 19-year-old has now made himself one of the first names on the teamsheet with a string of fine displays in the unfamiliar full-back role.

Katongo is a centre-back by trade but was thrown in at right-back when Peter Kioso was recalled by Rotherham United in January.

After a shaky start, Katongo has adapted extremely well and become a real attacking threat, as his assists prove.

The influence of Pep Guardiola’s methods is clear to see in Katongo’s versatility and it looks like he will have a great career.
