Paul Merson has shared his prediction for Manchester City’s upcoming Premier League showdown against Manchester United.
Their previous league outings saw the Citizens beat Bournemouth 1-0 away from home, whereas the Red Devils fell to a 2-1 defeat against Fulham at Old Trafford.
With both teams winning their respective FA Cup games in midweek, they will undoubtedly be hoping to win this upcoming league game to get one over on their rivals and move up the table.
Looking ahead to this game, one pundit has shared his thoughts on how the match will go and who will come out victorious.
Merson shares Man City prediction for Man United game

In his latest column for Sportskeeda where he previewed and predicted the results for all of this weekend’s Premier League fixtures, Merson had this to say about the upcoming Manchester Derby.
He said: “If Rasmus Hojlund was fit, I’d have given Manchester United a chance in this game as the away side would have had a lot of pace in attack with the Danish striker playing alongside Alejandro Garnacho and Marcus Rashford.
“Now that Hojlund is out injured, I think it would be one-way traffic in favour of the home side. I actually think Manchester United are going to the Etihad Stadium in damage-limitation mode – so I’m going to be kind and go for a 3-0 home win but I wouldn’t be surprised if it was a lot worse.
“I personally think Liverpool’s game against Forest is a harder one to call than this one, so I’m going for a comfortable home win.”
The previous league meeting between the two sides saw Pep Guardiola’s side secure a 3-0 victory at Old Trafford thanks to Erling Haaland and Phil Foden back in October.
Since then, the Blues have only lost one of their 16 league games, whereas United have been defeated on five occasions against Newcastle United, Bournemouth, West Ham United, Nottingham Forest and Fulham.
This makes it understandable why Merson thinks City will win on Sunday and could even rack up a significant scoreline in doing so.
