Sam Allardyce has shared his thoughts on Trent Alexander-Arnold’s recent comments about Manchester City’s success.

Ahead of Sunday’s Premier League clash between City and Liverpool, the Reds full-back claimed that the trophies his side have won over the past few years will mean more to Liverpool fans than City’s trophies will have for their fans due to financial reasons.

This has now led to one former top-flight manager having his say on what the Englishman said.

Speaking in a recent edition of No Tippy Tappy Football, Allardyce had this to say when asked about Alexander-Arnold’s recent comments about City and their success.

He said: “I think that’s a little bit unnecessary really, a bit of a dig about City’s spending. It’s not like Liverpool have been paupers and not spent anything over the years.

“I understand that the trophies Trent Alexander-Arnold has won mean more to him in the Liverpool team but that’s a pretty obvious thing to say, of course they do. But the Manchester City players will flip that and say the complete opposite.

“Just unnecessary as much as anything. It’s been a great rivalry, let’s just leave it at that can’t we.”

Allardyce isn’t the only person who has shared their reaction to the Liverpool’s star’s comments about which trophies mean more to which fan base based on the clubs’ individual financials, as Erling Haaland said that Alexander-Arnold doesn’t know what it’s like to win a Treble.

In our view, a club’s financial situation doesn’t correlate to how much winning trophies means to the supporters.

Therefore, we remain unsure about Alexander-Arnold’s knowledge of City’s finances and how their fan base have appreciated the club’s numerous trophies wins in recent years.
