‘I want to see’… Kyle Walker makes Man City demand after Brighton pile more misery on Pep Guardiola

Manchester City captain Kyle Walker has seen his side lose their last four matches across all competitions.

City aimed to end their losing streak in their recent Premier League match away at Brighton & Hove Albion.

This ended up not being the case as Pep Guardiola’s side saw history repeat itself from Tuesday’s 4-1 Champions League defeat to Sporting CP and blow a first-half 1-0 lead to lose 2-1 against Fabian Hurzeler’s team.

Erling Haaland bagged his 12th league goal of the season in the 23rd minute but a brace from Brighton within five minutes in the second half piled more misery on the champions, with another international break now facing them.

Following this latest loss, the City captain shared a no-nonsense message about his side’s current situation and what he’s demanding from the other players in the squad from now on.

Kyle Walker demands more from Man City players after latest defeat

Speaking to the club’s media after the game against the Seagulls, Kyle Walker did not mince his words about what he wants to see from his teammates going forward.

He said: “This is the time where I want to see the players and real characters come through.

“It’s all good for the last eight years when we’ve been winning and dominating games. But now it’s tough, this is the time where us as the senior members have to pull the players through who haven’t been here for a while and show them the foundations of this club.

“We’ve built those foundations over the last eight years and that will get us through this patch.

“It’s football and with the players and manager we have, with the club the fans, it will pass.

“We need to weather the storm and make sure after the international break we come back fit and ready to go for an important part of the season.

“There will be light at the end of the tunnel and I feel this isn’t going to win us the Premier League this period, and it’s not going to lose us the Premier League.

“Obviously, ideally, we would want to be top and not losing the games we’ve lost, but it’s football.

“I feel the teams in the mid-block of the table are getting better, they’re spending money, and they’re trying to break us down with the crown we’ve won over the last four years.

“So this has to make us better as players, better as people, and make sure that we get through this tough patch

Matt O’Riley explained how Brighton tactically exposed City

After scoring the winning goal for his side, Matt O’Riley explained how Brighton exposed City, sharing this on what Hurzeler told him to do after coming on as a substitute in the second half.

He said: “He just told me to go and play in that right pocket.

“First half we played with a double 6 and one 10 in a box whereas second half we played with two 8s dropping out to the spaces on the side and I think that gave us a little bit more joy and I was just popping up in a few areas there and we got a lot of success from it.

“I just tried to make the run in the little half-space. The manager kept talking about aiming to make those runs and getting diagonals out to the wideman and I think if you do that enough you get on the end of it yourself.”

Now that Walker has shared what he’s demanding from his fellow City players, the club’s next group of fixtures following the latest international break will give them the best opportunity to put words into action and do what they need to so they can get their season back on track.

Once the final international break of 2024 comes to an end, City will be taking on Tottenham Hotspur – who knocked the Blues out of the Carabao Cup and set them on this run of defeats – at the Etihad Stadium.

This will be the ideal time for Guardiola’s side to deliver a convincing victory and get the result they desperately need to keep them in the race to win another Premier League trophy.
