“I was surprised”: Chris Sutton shocked by what Guardiola did before Manchester City 2-1 Brighton

Chris Sutton has now revealed his surprise at seeing Pep Guardiola opt for Jeremy Doku over Jack Grealish in Manchester City vs Brighton.

The 50-year-old made the comments when covering the Premier League clash on BBC Radio 5 Live.

So, what did Chris Sutton say about Jeremy Doku and Jack Grealish? Let’s take a look…

What’s the story?

Well, the man from Nottingham was shocked to see Guardiola select the Belgium international over his £100m man before Manchester City took on Brighton at the Etihad Stadium.

It was Doku who provided the assist for Julian Alvarez to open the scoring after a mesmeric run, in which he breezed past Pascal Groß.

Sutton said: “Brilliant run from Doku, I was surprised he got the nod over Grealish, but what do I know?

“Isolated Groß, little burst to the byline, he cuts it back from Alvarez. Wasn’t the cleanest of finishes, he choked the shot a bit, but great start for City.”

There’s a real fight going on between Doku and Grealish for a place in the starting XI – the Belgian seemed all too aware of that as he wasted no time in helping Alvarez give Manchester City the lead.

Doku is the man for Guardiola at Manchester City right now

It was interesting to see Guardiola opt for Doku over Grealish again as Brighton visited the Etihad Stadium.

It came after the Spaniard also turned to his £55.5m signing from Rennes as Manchester City found life tough against Arsenal before the international break, leaving Grealish on the bench for the entire game.

Despite Guardiola starting the England international in massive fixtures last season as Manchester City won the treble, the 52-year-old clearly wants a bit more pace in that area, which Doku delivers in abundance.

Whoever is picked to start, it is fantastic for Manchester City to have two outstanding options in this department.
