Gary Lineker says he ‘wrong’ to have ever doubted Kyle Walker

Branded as an ‘elite performer’ by The Athletic, the former Tottenham Hotspur right-back was hailed by Phil Foden after his impressive outing for England against Scotland.

Assisting Foden’s opener as well as being a constant attacking threat and being typically reliable at the back, Walker was a class act on Tuesday.

Gary Lineker admitted that he had a hot take about Kyle Walker that he has been proven incorrect by him since his move to Manchester City.

“I must say, talking of Kyle Walker, I kind of upset him I think when he left Spurs and obviously, I was a bit of a Spurs man. He left Spurs at whatever his price was, can you remember what it was now? £50, £60 million, wasn’t it?”

“I think it was £50 million and I tweeted, I occasionally get myself in trouble with tweets. And I tweeted something along the lines of, ‘what a player. Imagine how much they’d had to have paid if he could cross the ball.’

Gary Lineker also revealed that he had a face-to-face chat with Kyle Walker and apologised to him, saying, “I shouldn’t have done it really. I think it upset him a little bit. And he’s come on so much since then. I hosted an event for Vincent Kompany, for his charity and I went up to Kyle and I said, ‘I said this once and I just wanted to say two things: one, you’re one hell of a player and two, I shouldn’t have said that. I was out of order.’

“I just felt I was wrong. I wasn’t scared. He couldn’t catch me anyway, could he?”, Lineker joked.

Fair play to Gary Lineker for holding his hands up about Kyle Walker, who continues to cement his status as an all-time great.
