Jamie Carragher has been speaking about Cole Palmer and Manchester City target Lucas Paqueta.

The 45-year-old has raised a debate after naming his Team of the Season so far on Sky Sports.

So, what did Jamie Carragher say about Manchester City target Lucas Paqueta and Cole Palmer? Let’s take a look…

What Carragher said about Paqueta and Palmer

Well, the Sky Sports pundit overlooked the Brazil international in favour of the England international – who Manchester City sold to Chelsea in a £42.5m deal in September.

When challenged on why Paqueta – who UOL claim is still a target for Pep Guardiola – did not make his team, Carragher wrote: “It was him or Palmer! Maybe recency bias but after Palmer’s performance at Luton I went for him!!”

After seeing an £80m move to Manchester City collapse in the summer due to alleged betting breaches – according to Sky Sports – the West Ham No.10 has responded superbly.

Paqueta – who UOL mention is still a target for Manchester City as the Citizens wait to see if he is innocent – has been talismanic for West Ham this season, scoring twice while also providing five assists in 18 Premier League appearances.

In regards to Palmer, the Chelsea No.20 has scored eight goals while providing four assists in 17 Premier League appearances.

Guardiola surely wishes Palmer stayed at Manchester City

Guardiola actually wanted Palmer to stay at the Etihad Stadium, but revealed that the City Football Academy graduate expressed a desire to leave.

The 52-year-old told the Daily Mail: “I said to him, Riyad Mahrez is leaving, you are going to get a chance here. He said, no, I’m not going to play here, I want to leave.”

Therefore, the situation was out of Guardiola’s hands, although the Spaniard surely wishes he could have kept Palmer based on how the Manchester-born wonderkid has performed this season.

The £42.5m man has been a sensation in west London within a struggling Chelsea side, so just imagine what he could have done playing for the treble winners.
