Manchester City secured another piece of silverware at Wembley Stadium this weekend as they beat Manchester United in the Community Shield.

Following a 1-1 draw in 90 minutes, Pep Guardiola’s side beat their Manchester rivals 7-6 on penalties to set themselves up for next weekend’s Premier League opening match against Chelsea.

The Citizens found themselves 1-0 down with 82 minutes on the clock after Alejandro Garnacho put the Red Devils ahead.

In the 89th minute, Bernardo Siva bagged an equaliser with a back-post header which ultimately led to the penalty shootout taking place to decide the winner.

Once the shootout was over, a pundit pinpointed one particular player from the City team for some hefty praise after his latest performance for the Premier League champions.

Ian Wright buzzes over Oscar Bobb after Community Shield performance

Speaking on ITV’s TV coverage after the game, Ian Wright had this to say about Oscar Bobb after he was named the Player of the Match.

He said: “Playing in games like this, rightly Man of the Match, he really contributed, he was one of the most exciting players in the game, and he has just got to carry on doing his stuff and get consistency, and see how he can go.”

Bobb showed his class against United

After scoring two goals and delivering three assists across the four pre-season friendly games in America he appeared in, Bobb started and completed 89 minutes against United before being subbed for Kevin De Bruyne.

During his time on the pitch, the Norwegian, who Chelsea have reportedly discussed making a move for this summer, had 50 touches of the ball in total and made three key passes in total, which is more key passes than any other City player made on the day.

Bobb’s display ultimately earned him a match rating of 7/10 from SofaScore, making him the joint-highest-rated player who started for City.

This shows why Wright was so enamoured by what he saw from the winger on this occasion.
