Ian Wright names the current Man City player he thinks would actually make a top pundit

Ian Wright has suggested that one current Manchester City first-teamer would make an excellent football pundit.

It is safe to say that many of Manchester City‘s players are some of the very best in the world. That is evident from how many trophies they have won.

But there are also a few very intelligent players on the books at the Etihad Stadium, and players that tend to speak really well in interviews and press conferences.

Manuel Akanji is widely regarded as being very intelligent. The Switzerland international is known for being a maths genius, and also speaks really well before and after games.

Bernardo Silva is also someone who has been praised for his interview skills, as has Ruben Dias.

But there is another City player that Ian Wright feels would actually make a really great pundit some day…

The latest episode of Stick To Football has been released, and at the end, there was some talk about who in the game right now could make a good football pundit.

Jamie Carragher suggested that England stars James Maddison and Declan Rice would both make good ones. Gary Neville also said that Trent Alexander-Arnold could be good, following his recent appearance as a pundit for Liverpool’s game with Brighton when he was injured.

Ian Wright initially said that Alexander-Arnold and Conor Coady would make good pundits, but then suggested Kevin De Bruyne.

He said: “If he wanted to do it as well. When you listen to him speak, you feel like ‘wow’. He’s giving you something, you’re hearing something about what he’s done, he’s seen something, he’s that special player…

“When he does his interviews and you listen to him you think ‘Yeah, that was pretty interesting’.”

De Bruyne would shine in the studio

De Bruyne is one of the greatest midfielders ever to play the game – and he is also a fantastic speaker.

De Bruyne would make an absolutely brilliant pundit. When the Belgian talks, he is extremely calm and composed, and always offers very measured and honest takes. He is never one to let emotions rule.

He doesn’t use cliches all that much, and is always genuinely really interesting and compelling to listen to.

Who knows at the moment if it’s something he fancies getting into. It’s possible the £55 million man might want to go down the coaching route. Retirement does not seem imminent and so, we won’t know for a while yet what his post-football journey will be. It has been suggested this week that De Bruyne could actually move to the MLS after his current City contract expires in 2025.

But we’ve seen Thierry Henry go from an absolutely incredible Premier League player to a top pundit. De Bruyne could easily go on a similar path.
