Ian Wright shares one thing teams have now realised about playing Man City

Manchester City are in uncharted territory, having lost five games in a row under Pep Guardiola.

Manchester City crashed to an awful 4-0 defeat against Tottenham Hotspur at the weekend at the Etihad Stadium, and it’s clear there are many issues at play right now.

Bernardo Silva recently suggested that Man City were in a ‘dark place’.

But Kevin De Bruyne didn’t necessarily agree with Bernardo, suggesting things had been more ‘chaotic’.

Certainly, things are far from ideal right now – but a Champions League game against Feyenoord represents a chance to get back on track, ahead of a huge game against Liverpool.

The are several reasons why City find themselves in the position they’re currently in – and Ian Wright homed in one on when speaking to Premier League Productions.

At the moment, City are all over the place.

The midfield is a major concern, with teams slicing through and looking extremely dangerous on the counter.

The loss of Rodri is proving to be very damaging for Pep Guardiola, and pundit Ian Wright believes the Spaniard’s absence is definitely a main factor in City’s struggles.

He reckons that City have lost that aura of invincibility, and suggested teams have now cottoned on to their lack of dynamism.

He said: “Teams have found a way to play them now and they’re not as dynamic as they were. Again I go back, with a team of that stature and a manager of that stature with what they have done, they should have cover for Rodri. You’ve got to look at that and say they’ve got that wrong.

“You look now and you see five games on the spin, now we’re starting to see it. You’re saying that Pep’s not panicking and he’s doing well to not show it, but five games on the spin that he’s lost, has that ever happened before with him.”

Matheus Nunes and Jack Grealish’s legs could help Man City midfield

It has become clear in recent weeks that City are just too easy to play against.

The loss of Rodri has obviously been very costly, but City are also now missing Mateo Kovacic, meaning there just isn’t any kind of mobility in the middle.

Ilkay Gundogan has been really struggling, and Bernardo Silva is someone who brings a lot of things but dynamism isn’t one of them.

It may be worth Guardiola turn to one of Matheus Nunes or Jack Grealish to take up a midfield role for the time being.

Nunes is naturally a central player, and the plan was actually for Grealish to play as a number eight when he first signed, so it may now be time to finally put that plan into action.

This is surely the biggest issue for City at the moment and Guardiola has got to try and do something different – and Nunes or Grealish in the middle would certainly represent that.
