Stephen Warnock believes that Manchester City midfielder Phil Foden is a superior player to Arsenal winger Bukayo Saka.
Last month, Rio Ferdinand also claimed that he rates the 23-year-old more highly than the Gunners poster-boy, due to how he has won multiple trophies and continued to compete at the top level in the Premier League and the Champions League.
Considering Phil Foden produced a masterful showing as a right-winger in the Manchester Derby, it is natural that debates have emerged whether he should start for England in the position over Bukayo Saka.
Stephen Warnock says Phil Foden is better than Bukayo Saka
Gareth Southgate tends to favour the Arsenal talisman on the right flank and in all fairness, he has managed to deliver, both at the 2018 World Cup as well as Euro 2020.
Foden, on the other hand, was deployed on the left wing by Southgate at the Euros but he did not begin the competition as an automatic starter.
If given a choice to start either on the right wing, Stephen Warnock opted for Phil Foden over Bukayo Saka, who he thinks is just a superior player.

“One of the problems that you’ve got at the moment is you’ve got [Bukayo] Saka in great form, you don’t want to take away from him. Who’s the better player out of Saka and [Phil] Foden? I think that’ll be a good argument. I’d say it would be Phil Foden, personally if there’s a choice between the two”, he said on Sky Sports.
Phil Foden is having a better season than the Arsenal winger as well
In our view, Stephen Warnock is spot on about Phil Foden being a superior player to Bukayo Saka.
While Saka has been getting numbers throughout the season, it is only until recently that his all-round displays have also been first-class, unlike in the case of the Manchester City midfielder.
Phil Foden, on the other hand, even judging by the ongoing campaign has been both productive and impactful from a variety of positions since the start of the season.
As a result, regardless of whether one prefers Foden or Saka, even on form, the former trumps the latter.
