Manchester City star Phil Foden believes he is currently playing the best football of his career, with the midfielder making his 20th goal contribution of the season last night.

City beat Burnley 3-1 at the Etihad Stadium, and it was a comfortable evening for the team against Vincent Kompany’s side.

Julian Alvarez scored two goals in the first-half, with Rodri adding a third for City just after the restart.

Phil Foden was the man to assist the Spaniard, taking his tally to nine for the season across all competitions. He has also scored 11 goals.

He has enjoyed a tremendous campaign, and Foden has been speaking about his recent form in the club’s latest digital magazine

This season, Foden has seriously kicked on at City.

Last term, he had a bit of a stop-start campaign and, although he made important contributions en route to City winning the Treble, he was not one of the main players.

This season, he has arguably been City’s best player, operating more in a central role.

The absence of Kevin De Bruyne has given him more opportunities to play in the middle, and Foden has absolutely thrived.

In his eyes, he is currently playing his best football for City. He said: “I’m an energetic player who likes to create, so I actually think it suits me to play against teams who defend in numbers. I like to think I’m going to be the one who unlocks the defence and help the team score important goals, so I’m delighted by the way things are going this season. Is it as well as I’ve played for City? I’d say so, yeah.”

Foden has been sensational

Foden may well be playing the best football of his career right now.

The 23-year-old has been an absolutely key player for Pep Guardiola, and has started the vast majority of games.

The injury to De Bruyne undoubtedly helped him, and to have racked up 20 goal contributions by the start of February is exceptional.

It is difficult to recall a time where Foden has been as good as this in a Man City shirt. He is taking responsibility right now, and was even shining when City were off it just before the Club World Cup.

If he can maintain this form through until the end of the season, he will be hard to look past for City’s Player of the Season.
