‘If he stays’: Pundit says City could win three UCLs in a row if ‘outstanding’ man doesn’t leave

Manchester City will be the favourites for the Champions League again for the next two years if Pep Guardiola stays at the club.

That is the view of Stuart Robson who was speaking on ESPN about City’s future.

The Premier League champions have just secured their first-ever European title, and some are already wondering if they can repeat the trick next year.

Robson believes that this could be the beginning of a spell of dominance for City so long as Guardiola remains in charge at the Etihad.

Just the beginning

Robson gave his verdict on Guardiola.

“It all started many years ago when Mancini winning the league and the FA Cup as well. That gave them the belief they could win things and now that they have won the Champions League they have to be the favourites in the next few seasons if Guardiola stays. If he leaves in a couple of years’ time I don’t think Man City will be the same club, we have to give him a lot of praise. He is the outstanding manager in world football at the moment,” Robson said.

“He’s a magnificent manager and if he stays for the next couple of years they have to be favourites. This is the start of domination by Man City you would think.”

Pep must stay

There are a number of key figures at Manchester City who have contributed to their success, but Pep Guardiola is the one man at the club who is truly irreplaceable.

Yes, you could say the same about the likes of Kevin De Bruyne or Erling Haaland, but we’ve seen that players come and go, just look at how David Silva and Sergio Aguero were replaced at the Etihad.

However, when it comes to top-class managers, there really isn’t anyone out there quite like Guardiola, and if the Spaniard does leave, City would be a completely different club.

If City want to forge a European dynasty, they need to keep Pep in charge for as long as possible.
