Pundit Alan Brazil has said that he is disappointed by the prospect of Cole Palmer leaving Manchester City to join Chelsea.
Yesterday, it was reported that the west London club had agreed a deal with City to sign the winger for a fee between £40m-£45m.
This has now led to one pundit sharing his thoughts on this proposed move.
Brazil disappointed by potential Palmer exit
Speaking on talkSPORT, Brazil had this to say on the matter.
He said: “It’s a hell of a lot of money, isn’t it? You know what you’re getting with [Matheus] Nunes, don’t you? But saying that, Palmer has come in, he’s taken his chances, he’s done well.
“If I’m being honest, I’m a little bit disappointed he’s leaving City, but at the same time, it’s ambition. He’s saying ‘no, no, no, I’m good enough.’ He knows what he’s doing, Pep [Guardiola], he doesn’t often make mistakes.”
Having only made 41 senior appearances for the Citizens after working his way through their youth ranks, scoring six goals and delivering two assists in the process, this could be why Brazil thinks the fee being reported for the player is quite significant.
In terms of being disappointed in him potentially walking away from the Etihad Stadium, the fact that City have been the most successful club in England over the last few years, in addition to Guardiola’s ability to improve the players he coaches, could be why Brazil feels this way.
However, with the 21-year-old being an unused substitute for City’s two previous Premier League games against Newcastle United and Sheffield United, perhaps Palmer feels that he’d be more likely to get regular game time at Stamford Bridge.
Moving forward, if this reported deal goes through, we feel that the Manchester club will have done well to get such a hefty fee for a player that they may not see as a crucial one for their team.
