Phil Foden has said that Kevin De Bruyne will be the key to Manchester City’s success this season.

After spending the first few months of the season recovering from hamstring surgery, the Belgian has now started to play regularly again.

With the Blues on the hunt to regain the three titles they picked up last season, Foden has shared his thoughts on the sort of role his fellow midfielder could have throughout the remainder of the campaign.

Speaking to Joe Cole in a recent interview shared on TNT Sports’ YouTube channel, Foden had this to say about De Bruyne and his return to action.

He said: “For me, when he’s at it he’s top three best players in the world. I don’t see anyone who can pass the ball like him or cross the ball.

“If we’re going to win anything we going to need Kevin back to his best.”

The previous Premier League campaign saw the 32-year-old, who City paid £55m to sign from Wolfsburg back in 2015, score seven goals and supply 16 assists.

In fact, he ended up making more key passes (96) than any other City player, as well as racking up more shot-creating actions (176) and goal-creating actions (31).

This shows how much of an important figure he can be in the team and what he offers on the pitch when he’s available.

Since he recovered from his injury, De Bruyne has scored one goal and delivered four assists across the five games he’s appeared in.

Taking all of that into account, it comes as no surprise that Foden thinks having a fully fit and firing De Bruyne in the team will give City a big boost to their hopes of regaining the titles they won last term.
