Now-Barcelona midfielder Ilkay Gundogan has said that Manchester City attacker Jack Grealish is ‘so misunderstood’ by some of the media.
In his parting message addressed to the Sky Blues and the fanbase for The Player’s Tribune, the treble-winning skipper gave a special mention to the 27-year-old.
According to Ilkay Gundogan, Jack Grealish has often been mischaracterised by a lot of the sections of the media.
Ilkay Gundogan says Jack Grealish is ‘so misunderstood’
The England international is known to speak his mind, dress in quite a flashy manner and enjoy the odd drink or two.
Due to Grealish’s flamboyant ways, many believe that he comes off quite arrogant and as if he does not commit himself to the cause like a top professional must.
However, Ilkay Gundogan, who has shared a dressing room with Jack Grealish for two seasons could not disagree more with this perception.

“I just want to say that Jack Grealish is so misunderstood by some of the media. He is one of the nicest guys I’ve met in football. He’s so much fun to be around and so humble and pure.”
Ilkay Gundogan went on to laud Jack Grealish for rising above all the stick aimed at him in his debut season and becoming a success at Manchester City.
“I felt so happy for his success this season, because I know what it’s like to come to a big club for a lot of money, with all that pressure. He worked so hard to get to another level this season, and he was fantastic for us.”
Jack Grealish deserves a lot of props
Ilkay Gundogan has hit the nail on the head as during and even after his first campaign at Manchester City, Jack Grealish was written off by the masses.
Several fans and pundits alike believed that he was not a Pep Guardiola player and even lacked the work ethic to thrive at the Etihad Stadium, with Michael Owen even admitting that he doubted that the ex-Aston Villa captain would turn things around.
However, during City’s revival during the second half of last season, it was Grealish who stood up the tallest at the very start and played a pivotal role in his side winning the lot, which merits plenty of credit.
