Manchester City managed to end their losing streak in their latest Champions League match.
Tuesday night saw City take on Feyenoord at the Etihad Stadium, which they headed into off the back of five consecutive defeats across all competitions.
Pep Guardiola’s side were 3-0 up eight minutes into the second half but went on to concede three goals in 14 minutes to walk away with just one point.
Alan Shearer called City’s draw an “absolute disaster” for them after potentially being a possible springboard following their dismal run of results.
The Manchester club’s next match sees them take on Premier League leaders Liverpool at Anfield.
Shortly after their midweek draw, a key figure from City’s squad shared his early thoughts on what Sunday’s showdown in Merseyside could hold for the Blues.

Ilkay Gundogan previews Man City vs Liverpool
Speaking to the Daily Mail after the Feyenoord game, Ilkay Gundogan gave this early preview for Sunday’s big clash with Liverpool when asked if he considers it a must-win game for City.
He said: “To stay in the title race probably yes. 11 points would be a huge gap. Anfield is always tough. We’ve struggled in recent years.
“Liverpool are a great team full of confidence. It’s as tough as possible. We have to look at ourselves and try to do the things we can do better, as quickly as possible.
“We take it, stay humble, head down and try to put in the work in the next few days and prepare as good as possible for a tough game.”
Gael Clichy reckons Liverpool is a ‘perfect’ game for City
Heading into this big game at Anfield, Arne Slot’s side are currently eight points above City at the top of the Premier League table.
| Premier League 2024/25 | Won | Drawn | Lost | Goals Scored | Goals Conceded | Clean Sheets |
| Liverpool | 10 | 1 | 1 | 24 | 8 | 6 |
| Manchester City | 7 | 2 | 3 | 22 | 17 | 2 |
After seeing his former side capitulate against Feyenoord, Gael Clichy discussed City’s match against Liverpool and what the Blues must do to avoid picking up another disappointing result.
He said: “Liverpool is probably the perfect game for City to go again. They go to Anfield and they have to be 100 per cent focused.
“Today they did not take the chances to kill the game. You have to take chances.
“You can’t go to Liverpool feeling sorry for yourself and you have to take positives going into that. You need to dig deep and find that form and go on the road to Liverpool and get a positive result. City have it in them.”
Given the immense start to the season the Reds have had under their new manager, in addition to the fact that City are in the opposite sort of form to them and have only won twice at Anfield in the Premier League era, there’s no denying that Sunday will be their toughest test of the season.
With that in mind, if the Citizens are able to walk away with a victory, this would surely give the Blues a massive confidence boost and hopefully help them get their season back on track.
