Rio Ferdinand has said that he does not think Manchester City hitman Erling Haaland will break his own Premier League goal record this season.

Speaking on FIVE magazine’s YouTube channel, he gave his two cents on whether the £51 million (Sky Sports) man could outdo his 36-goal tally from the previous campaign.

However, Rio Ferdinand was confident that Manchester City megastar Erling Haaland would be unable to do so.

Branded as ‘elite’ by Sergio Aguero (via OneFootball), the 23-year-old did not just demolish the Premier League but also managed to bag as many as 52 goals in 53 games across all competitions.

So much so that Craig Burley believes that the Ballon d’Or should only head in one direction and that is in the Norwegian striker’s way.

Now, Rio Ferdinand has briefly said that Erling Haaland will not be able to break his own Premier League goal record this time around.

“No, I’ll bet against it”, he said.

Betting against Erling Haaland is just naïve at this point

While one can understand why Rio Ferdinand is confident in his prediction, doubting Erling Haaland in any capacity is far from wise.

Despite making his way into the best league in the world, the former Borussia Dortmund frontman managed to shatter records set by legendary forwards such as Mohamed Salah, Andy Cole and Alan Shearer.

Before one forgets, for the first half of last season, the Sky Blues were far from their fluid best and yet, Haaland achieved record-breaking goal numbers.

It is clear to see that the revered striker is already one of the best natural goalscorers the game has ever seen.

To question Erling Haaland’s goalscoring potential is rather silly considering all the evidence points to the fact that he has always been generational in this very respect.
