‘I’m a big fan’… John Stones says £14m star is definitely the most underrated player at Man City right now

John Stones has claimed that Julian Alvarez is currently the most underrated player at Manchester City.

It seems like those at the Etihad Stadium seem to know how much quality the Argentine possesses, with Pep Guardiola claiming that he “deserves” to start as regularly as he has this season.

In December last year, Bernardo Silva also described the World Cup winner as a “top, top striker.”

Stefan Ortega also described the £14 million (Sky Sports) man as an “incredible player”, who he reckons can still “improve.”

When quizzed about his most underrated teammate at Manchester City, John Stones named Julian Alvarez.

“I put Julian Alvarez”, Stones told Sky Sports in an interview.

“What he’s done in the game already, things that he’s won, the goals that he’s come up with, one last season against Fulham, difficult game that we were playing in away. We knew it was a must-win game, Julian came out of nowhere and put it in the top bin and he does everything so well, works hard off the ball, fights for everything.”

“I don’t know, his whole game, I’m a big, I’m a big fan. Really big.”

Julian Alvarez may be underappreciated by the masses

John Stones raises a fair point about Julian Alvarez, as it is easy to forget just how much he has accomplished in his career at just 24 years of age.

In addition, while Alvarez has won plenty of silverware, both at club level and internationally, he has done so by playing a major part as well.

Perhaps one reason why the former River Plate striker does not get the plaudits his game merits is due to the number of elite players City have at their disposal.

Despite Julian Alvarez only failing to start in one Premier League game this campaign, perhaps some may still view him as a backup to Erling Haaland instead of a regular starter for Manchester City.

Ultimately, the true reason why Alvarez is not widely viewed as a top-quality player remains unknown.

But judging by John Stones’ comments about Julian Alvarez should be enough to enlighten those who fail to credit him for being such a brilliant player.
