Glenn Murray has suggested that Kyle Walker is better than Gary Neville, and is England’s greatest ever right-back.

The former Brighton & Hove Albion striker made this point on BBC Sounds’ Football Daily podcast about the £53 million (Guardian) man.

While Gary Neville is widely viewed as England’s best right-back of all time, it seems like Glenn Murray disagrees and thinks it is actually Kyle Walker.

Glenn Murray suggests Kyle Walker is better than Gary Neville

The Manchester City defender was rightfully lauded for how he kept Vinicius Jr. quiet in his side’s 4-0 thrashing of Real Madrid in the Champions League.

Thierry Henry branded the 32-year-old as a ‘beast’, while Danny Murphy said he is arguably ‘the greatest English full-back.’

As it was being said that Kyle Walker has surpassed Gary Neville as the best English right-back to ever grace the game, Glenn Murray seemingly agreed.

“I’m in agreement, to be honest. I just think he’s superior. His willingness to get forward, the way he can play that inverted full-back role, I think Pep Guardiola has made him a better player as well.”

“As a defender, he never sells himself. He always jockeys to the right point and then engages to the right point.”

Kyle Walker is the best Premier League right-back of all time as well

Surely Glenn Murray agrees, first and foremost as Gary Neville is widely considered as the Premier League’s greatest right-back.

However, what separates the pair is how Walker has adapted his game when he left Tottenham Hotspur to join Manchester City in 2017.

At Spurs, the four-time Premier League winner was not just the best but the most attacking right-back in the country under Mauricio Pochettino’s time at the club.

Under Pep Guardiola, the ageing defender was tasked with toning his attacking instincts down, instead operating in midfield as well as operating as a third centre-back at times.

Whilst at the elite level against the likes of superstar wingers like Kylian Mbappe, Neymar and now Vinicius Jr., he always seems to come out on top for both club and country.
