It has been reported that Romeo Lavia is waiting to see if a return to Manchester City in a summer transfer deal remains a possibility.
This comes from journalist Alex Crook, who told GiveMeSport about the £12 million (Fabrizio Romano) man’s future, as City have a £40 million buyback clause in place that will only be active in 2024.
However, Manchester City do have a first refusal offer in the clause, which could yet mean they could still wrap up a transfer for Romeo Lavia.
Romeo Lavia waiting to discover if Manchester City transfer is possible
It has been claimed in the past like other ‘Big Six’ clubs like Manchester United and Arsenal look to capitalise on the situation by signing the Belgian international.
Branded as ‘incredible’ by Pep Guardiola, the 19-year-old had a phenomenal season at Southampton, despite them finishing in 20th place in the Premier League.
According to Alex Crook, Romeo Lavia still views a transfer to Manchester City as his ideal scenario this summer.

“I’m told he was really keen to move on in January. It’s been suggested that maybe he might wait and see what Man City do because they’ve got that buy-back option. I’m not sure about that. I think if he can get a Premier League club and a big one this summer, then he’ll push for it.”
A Romeo Lavia return would be ideal for the Sky Blues
For starters, if Manchester City are able to pull off a transfer for Romeo Lavia, this could weaken their domestic rivals’ hands, as they aim to strengthen their ranks by signing him.
To add to that, the teenager is one of the most promising young defensive midfielders in the world and would be an excellent understudy to Rodri.
Not to suggest that City should lose hope in Kalvin Phillips’ development but in terms of comparing ceilings, the former Sky Blues lynchpin’s is quite clearly much higher.
However, initiating a return would be easier said than done for the double winners.
