Jacob Wright made his debut for Manchester City in Sunday’s FA Cup win over Huddersfield – and some inside information has now emerged.
It was Sam Lee of The Athletic who provided some insight regarding the 18-year-old after the 5-0 win over Huddersfield at the Etihad Stadium.
So, what was said about Manchester City prodigy Jacob Wright? Let’s take a look…
Glowing review of Jacob Wright
Well, Lee – Manchester City correspondent for The Athletic – has spoken to his contacts about the England U19 international.
Writing on X (previously known as Twitter) the reliable journalist stated: “Jacob Wright – signed for City at U8 but has been with the club since more like U4/U5. I’m told he has great technique and vision, a ball-playing central/holding midfielder, really good attitude. Not bad then.”

Just for clarity, Lee then added a correction – the teenager definitely joined Manchester City at U8 level while it was his little brother who partook in sessions in the U4 ranks.
How Jacob Wright performed on his Manchester City debut
The Croston-born prodigy came on for the final 15 minutes of Sunday’s FA Cup third round victory over the Terriers, and showed exactly why Pep Guardiola has taken a liking to him.
As shown by SofaScore, Wright registered a pass success rate of 91% from his attempted 23 passes, while also taking 24 touches as he got involved in the FA Cup clash.
The City Football Academy graduate also made one clearance to help preserve the clean sheet.

It was something of a surprise to see Wright involved – prior to the FA Cup clash, we presumed that Max Alleyne would be handed a debut after coming close to playing against Red Star Belgrade.
Nevertheless, Wright took his opportunity, and we would expect him to receive a few more chances off the bench throughout the remainder of the 2023/24 campaign.
