Troy Deeney does not think Brentford hitman Ivan Toney would score 40 goals if he played for Manchester City.
Last season, the Englishman managed to register 20 goals in the Premier League for the Bees, with Thomas Frank claiming that he would score 25 plus goals in a top-four side [via Sky Sports].
In January, it was claimed by the Daily Mail that Brentford were valuing their star striker at £100 million.

Since returning to the pitch, Toney has scored four goals in five games in the league, despite having missed months of football.
The 27-year-old has established himself as one of the best strikers in the Premier League and after Harry Kane’s move to Bayern Munich, he perhaps may have a case for being the best in England after Erling Haaland.
Even so, Troy Deeney does not believe Ivan Toney could score as many as 40 goals if he was a Manchester City player.

“You couldn’t put, he’s going to kill me for this, Ivan Toney can’t go in there and score 40-50 goals, impossible. It’s different players and it takes a special striker to make 10, 15 runs and not get the ball.”
“And keep doing it, because you know you’re only going to get it once and it takes a special type of person”, he said on BBC 5 Live’s Defoe and Deeney Football Firsts.
Deeney continued, “I’ve said it before, if you put Kane in that team, while he would score goals, he wouldn’t score as much as Haaland because Harry likes to be involved in the build-up play.”
Ivan Toney would be a success at the Etihad Stadium
Whether Ivan Toney could score 40 goals at Manchester City is debatable but perhaps Troy Deeney would not dispute the fact that he would succeed at the club.
Pep Guardiola would perhaps enjoy working with the former Newcastle United goalscorer as well, with him having a profile like several other strikers he has worked with in his career.
Much like Robert Lewandowski, while Ivan Toney is not at the legendary Polish legend’s level, he is also much more than just a goalscorer.
Toney’s immaculate hold-up play, technical security and ability to create chances from deeper areas would perhaps make him a Guardiola favourite if the pair worked in tandem.
But at the end of the day, Manchester City have Erling Haaland in their ranks and as terrific as the Brentford talisman is, one doubts whether he could outscore the former.
