‘Impressed me’: Man City could now actually sign a player Kylian Mbappe said was the fastest he’s ever seen

As Manchester City have been linked with a transfer for Jeremy Doku, Kylian Mbappe once lavished praise on to him.

Back in 2021, the PSG superstar gave his views on the Rennes winger, as quoted by Get Football News France.

If Manchester City do end up bringing in Jeremy Doku, after Fabrizio Romano’s revelation on Tuesday, they could sign a player who Kylian Mbappe reserved special praise for.

What Kylian Mbappe once said about Manchester City target Jeremy Doku

With Riyad Mahrez having left the Etihad Stadium, the Sky Blues are in desperate need of signing a brand-new right-winger.

As a result, the Belgian international, alongside Michael Olise has been targeted by the treble-winners as a potential addition.

Interestingly, just two years ago, Kylian Mbappe was left blown away by the pace Jeremy Doku possesses, going as far as to say that he was the fastest player he had ever seen in his professional career.

“Recently, I was speaking with my father about a player who impressed me from the stands because I was not playing because of his speed qualities, that is Doku at Rennes. In 5 years as a professional, I have never seen someone from a standing start demonstrate so much power.”

Jeremy Doku could add something fresh to this Sky Blues side

If one of the quickest player in decades in Kylian Mbappe was shocked by how pacey Jeremy Doku is, Manchester City could be a signing a player as rapid, if not more than Kyle Walker.

Of course, it goes without saying that the 21-year-old is an elite athlete and this trait alone is a huge difference between him and City’s current wide players.

But aside from Doku’s speed, his incredible 1v1 ability and direct approach is one that Guardiola has seemingly tried to avoid since last season, as his choice of wingers seemed to be focused on retaining possession and allowing his side to have a more control-based approach.

As a result, the highly-rated winger’s addition would be reminiscent of when widemen like Raheem Sterling and Leroy Sane were prioritised.
