Barcelona now want to sign Julian Alvarez from Manchester City – in addition to Bernardo Silva.

That is according to SPORT.

So, what is the latest on Julian Alvarez? Let’s take a look…

What’s the story?

Well, the Spanish news outlet claim that Barcelona are keen to sign a long-term replacement for Robert Lewandowski, who turns 36 in August.

SPORT believe Xavi has settled on Alvarez as his No.1 option to replace the Poland international.

The story states that Manchester City’s No.19 has a €50m (£43m) release clause written into his contract at the Etihad Stadium, which is why Barcelona view him as an intriguing market opportunity.

Xavi is also a fan of Alvarez’s versatility – the South American can play centrally or on either flank.

The 23-year-old has enjoyed a stunning start to the 2023/24 campaign after winning the World Cup and a historic treble last season, an exceptional year which has seen him receive a Ballon d’Or nomination.

Alvarez has scored six goals – while also providing five assists – in just 13 appearances so far this term for Manchester City.

Barcelona want Bernardo Silva in addition to Julian Alvarez

Barcelona could be doing a lot of shopping at Manchester City next summer.

A story from TEAMtalk claims that Barcelona are not giving up on a deal to sign Silva from Manchester City, another player Xavi adores.

Interestingly – according to le10sport – the Portugal international also has a release clause written into his contract at Manchester City, believed to be worth £50m.

Barcelona are also likely to explore a permanent deal for Joao Cancelo next summer based on his stunning start to life on loan at the Camp Nou – he has scored two goals and provided one assist across six appearances in La Liga so far.

Clearly, Manchester City have a lot for the Spanish giants to envy – be sure to keep an eye out for further developments.
