It has been suggested that Ilkay Gundogan could now be set for an exit from Manchester City in the summer.
This revelation has been made by David Ornstein on the FIVE YouTube channel; however, he has reiterated that so far, no final decision about the £20 million (Guardian) man’s future has been made.
However, an indication has been made that an exit could well be on the cards for Manchester City captain Ilkay Gundogan.
David Ornstein suggests Ilkay Gundogan exit from Manchester City is on
Branded as an ‘outstanding midfielder’ by Roy Keane recently, the German international has been typically clutch during the title run-in.
It was claimed by the ever-credible Jack Gaughan that a reason why the 32-year-old is yet to extend his contract beyond the summer is because he eyes a two-year deal, whereas the Sky Blues have offered him a one-year renewal.
Now, David Ornstein has said that Ilkay Gundogan, who could win the treble at Manchester City at the end of the season could be set to exit the club on the ultimate high.

“His contractual situation dictates that it’s open. Nothing is finalised to my knowledge. We reported in the Monday column of the Athletic that there are no agreements in place, with Barcelona, with Manchester City or anybody else.”
Ornstein suggested why an exit for Gundogan from Manchester City could be likely, saying, “Clearly, if Manchester City haven’t gotten to an agreement with him at this late stage, then it’s obviously in jeopardy. He’s been free to sign a pre-contract agreement with overseas clubs since January. That hasn’t happened to our understanding.”
“So, the big question now is whether Manchester City will make renewed efforts to renew Gundogan. And it wouldn’t surprise me if they do because Pep Guardiola clearly loves him and would want to continue with him. He’s leaving it to the higher powers of the club and they do need to think about it.”
The Sky Blues must do everything to keep Gundogan
Considering Pep Guardiola and Ilkay Gundogan both seem to want to continue their successful association at Manchester City, an exit involving the iconic No.8 would be a disaster.
First things first, Gundogan is ageing like fine wine and to let him go ahead of next season when he continues to perform would be bizarre.
In addition, in the event that Bernardo Silva also leaves City, the club will have to replace two absolute stalwarts with new midfielders.
With brand-new signings known to take time to adapt to Guardiola’s ways, that could lead to a transition season in which they do not contend for trophies.
For a club that habitually wins major trophies season after season, that would be the worst-case scenario, especially during their golden era.
