Kevin De Bruyne has dismissed any rumours of a potential rift with Pep Guardiola after recent angry exchanges between the pair were spotted.
Specifically, during Manchester City’s 4-0 win over Real Madrid last month, the midfielder was seen shouting at the manager from the pitch.
With the Citizens now preparing for their last game of the season against Inter Milan in the Champion League final, the Belgian has shed some light on the matter.
De Bruyne pours cold water on suspected Guardiola tension
Speaking to the media (via talkSPORT), De Bruyne said this when asked about his recent on-pitch conflict with Guardiola.
He said: “That’s fine. I don’t see any issue with it. We’ve never talked about it after or before or whatever.
“These are things that happen when you play competitive sport at the highest level so you do everything to win and that happens with players, that happens with coaches.
“There’s nothing bad about it in my eyes and I don’t think in his eyes because otherwise he would have pulled me in his office.”
Having started 42 of the 48 games he’s featured in across all competitions this season, this shows how important the 31-year-old is for Guardiola and the team.
With 10 goals and 31 assists to his name across his 48 appearances, De Bruyne has delivered in some of City’s most important games of the season such as in their Champions League semi-final clashes against Real Madrid, the 4-1 win over Arsenal in the Premier League and the recent 2-1 win over Manchester United in the FA Cup final.
Now that the City star has dismissed any potential conflict with his manager, this should be a big relief for any supporters that may have had a concern about it.
