Ederson has raved over Kevin De Bruyne following the midfielder’s return for Manchester City – and used a brilliant analogy to highlight his importance.
City are in brilliant shape now after winning four games out of four in 2024 so far.
Pep Guardiola has gotten some key players back, and everything is starting to fall into place ready for a big push in the second half of the season.
Arsenal’s win over Liverpool yesterday has thrown the title race wide open, with City now having it in their hands to get back to the summit. The Citizens face Brentford tonight at the Gtech Community Stadium.
Key to winning the title again this season, and further trophies, will be Kevin De Bruyne – and Ederson has been talking up the Belgian maestro following his return…
Ederson hails Kevin De Bruyne the ‘king’ after Man City midfielder returns

De Bruyne has been absolutely brilliant since returning to action last month.
The 32-year-old has made an impact in every game he’s played, with his cameo against Newcastle United being his biggest highlight so far.
The star does not appear to be all that rusty, which is massively encouraging and hugely ominous for City’s title rivals.
Ederson has been speaking about De Bruyne, and he believes his return is seriously significant. And he used a cracking analogy to explain for important his teammate is.
He said (via mancity.com): “It’s just like chess – you have to protect the king [De Bruyne]! Now we have our ‘king’ back, one of the best assisters in Premier League history, third in the list now.
“We’re so happy to have him back and playing good football, especially after such a long time out. He’s a player that our team missed a lot because he has such ability – he finds passes that very few players can find.
“He gets assists, scores goals, plays good football, he keeps the ball, so I’m very happy that he’s back and that he has returned to his high level.
“I hope that he can help us a lot for the rest of the season, not only him, but the whole group.
A perfect summary from Ederson
This is a brilliant analogy from Ederson.
De Bruyne is a sensational player, and given the injury he’s just come back from, he certainly does need protecting.
Some feel Pep Guardiola may rotate the £400,000-a-week star here and there in order to keep him fresh and out of the clutches of injury, but we will see just how often he ends up doing that.
No one else can do what De Bruyne does on the pitch, and the manager will won’t to play him as much as possible in this second half of the season.
