‘In the last few hours’: Journalist says Bayern Munich have made contact to sign £60m Man City player

Bayern Munich have reportedly made contact over a potential late transfer move for Manchester City full-back Joao Cancelo.

The defender has been heavily linked with a move to Barcelona in recent days, although it has been reported that the Spanish club’s financial issues have delayed the potential move.

In a recent Twitter post, journalist Toni Juanmarti claimed that a Champions League club have been informed about the right-back’s situation in case his move to Barcelona doesn’t go through.

Now though, the same journalist has revealed which European club it is that have made contact about Cancelo.

In response to his initial post, Juanmarti had this to say on the situation.

He said: “Confirmed: it’s Bayern. Call in the last few hours to try to get in.”

The full-back, who City paid £60m to sign back in 2019, spent the second half of last season on loan at Bayern after leaving the Manchester club in the January transfer window.

Even though the 29-year-old missed out on winning the treble with Pep Guardiola’s side, he did end up helping Bayern win the Bundesliga by scoring one goal and delivering four assists in 15 league appearances.

Bearing in mind how Bayern missed out on signing Kyle Walker earlier in the summer transfer window and have now seen Benjamin Pavard leave the club, it’s understandable why they have looked at potentially landing another deal for Cancelo.

With the full-back not being included in any of City’s matchday squads so far this season, it’s safe to say that his future at the Etihad Stadium is virtually non-existent.

Therefore, we feel that if Bayern make a suitable offer for the player, the treble winners should have no issue accepting it.
