Jamie Carragher has said that Manchester City have the smartest player in the Premier League.

The pundit and former Liverpool defender has been watching the Manchester club dominate English football over the past few years under Pep Guardiola and also be crowned European champions at the end of last season.

Now though, Carragher has been sharing his thoughts on one particular City player and the specific attributes he has which stand out the most.

Speaking in a recent video posted on the Sky Sports Instagram page where the pundit was putting together his ultimate Premier League player, Carragher had this to say about which current top-flight figure he thinks has the best footballing mind.

He said: “The head I’m going to go for Kevin De Bruyne because he is the cleverest and most switched-on footballer in the league.”

During his time at the Etihad Stadium, the midfielder has made 358 appearances across all competitions, scoring 96 goals and delivering 153 assists along the way.

Having made more key passes (96) and goal-creating actions (31) than any other City player in the league last season, this highlights the Belgian’s intelligence as well as the vision and technique he has in being able to be such a creative figure on the pitch.

This is not the first time the 32-year-old has been hailed for his intelligence on the pitch, as Thierry Henry, who has played alongside the likes of Lionel Messi, Dennis Bergkamp, Zinedine Zidane, Xavi and Andres Iniesta, said back in May that De Bruyne has the best footballing brain he has ever seen.

With all of that in mind, it’s easy to see why Carragher has described the City star as the smartest player in the Premier League.
