Andy Morrison was full of praise for Kevin De Bruyne, who returned to action for Manchester City in their 5-0 thumping of Huddersfield Town in the FA Cup.
The Sri Lanka head coach lauded De Bruyne’s impact off the bench on City’s official full-time show on their YouTube channel, as he made an instant impact by setting up Doku’s goal.
The £54 million (Guardian) man has returned to the pitch after sustaining an injury in the Sky Blues’ opening contest of the Premier League campaign against Vincent Kompany’s Burnley.
Andy Morrison raves about “incredible” Kevin De Bruyne after Manchester City demolish Huddersfield
The Belgian international got an assist to his name just 17 minutes after coming onto the pitch, scooping the ball into Jeremy Doku’s path from the right flank to set up his countryman’s strike.
All eyes were on De Bruyne to see how he would fare after being sidelined for months on end and he delivered.
After Manchester City annihilated Huddersfield Town, Andy Morrison waxed lyrical about Kevin De Bruyne.

“It wasn’t just the reception he received from the stadium, which was a standing ovation coming onto the pitch. It’s just his poise and everything. Me and Paul [Dickov] are just looking at each other, smiling every time he has the ball because it’s a positive, forward movement that he’s looking every time he gets the ball”, he said on City’s official full-time show on their YouTube channel.
“He wants to create something and sometimes, it can slip into a pattern of let’s just keep the ball but he wants to make things happen and he made things happen the moment he came on. And it just reminds you again of just what an incredible footballer he is.”
Kevin De Bruyne proves class is permanent with encouraging cameo
As Andy Morrison said, Manchester City legend Kevin De Bruyne looked like he was focused on creating chances and producing a moment of magic against Huddersfield instead of simply feeling his way into the game.
Returning from such a length injury, the 32-year-old’s display was unsurprisingly far from flawless.
But even so, De Bruyne’s passing was largely sharp, be it in the final third or from deeper areas.
The midfield maestro’s movement was incisive as well, as he found space on the right flank on numerous instances before trying to set his teammates up with his revered crossing from his favoured zone on the pitch.
If Kevin De Bruyne already looks the part having been sidelined for such a lengthy spell, it is frightening to imagine how he performs when he feels fully match-fit.
