Manchester City winger Phil Foden put in a top performance in his latest England appearance.

For their latest qualifying match for Euro 2024, England managed to beat Malta 2-0 at Wembley thanks to an early own goal from Enrico Pepe, followed by a second-half strike from Harry Kane.

Despite not getting himself on the scoresheet, Foden was still able to deliver a strong performance and further boost his chances of being included in the squad for next year’s tournament in Germany.

The first goal of the game came after the City star managed to burst his way through the Malta defence and then see his intentioned cross to Kane deflect off Pepe and past the Malta goalkeeper to put the home side ahead.

Across the full 90 minutes, the 23-year-old, who has been hailed by Pep Guardiola previously for his “incredible” ability, had 68 touches of the ball in total, successfully completing 42 of the 48 passes he attempted.

In addition to making three key passes in the game, more than any other England player, Foden also completed all of the four dribbles he attempted, further highlighting how much of a tricky figure he was for Malta to deal with.

Then from a defensive point of view, the winger was able to win five of the seven duels he was involved in, showing how tough he can be in terms of trying to win the ball.

This display ultimately earned Foden an overall match rating of 7.7/10 from SofaScore, making him the second-highest rated player on the day alongside Kieran Trippier.

With England facing off against North Macedonia on Monday for their next qualifying match, it’ll be interesting to see if Gareth Southgate decides to start the City star again following on from last night’s impressive performance.

Looking beyond that, once the international break ends, City have a big clash against Liverpool to contend with, which will undoubtedly be a game that Foden will need to be in top form for in order to help his side pick up a victory.
