Manchester City have a number of promising young players, and one of them is Rico Lewis.

Rico Lewis has come through the Manchester City youth system and has established himself in the first team.

While Lewis is not guaranteed a place in Pep Guardiola’s starting lineup week in and week out, he is getting chances.

And, encouragingly for Lewis, the 18-year-old is actually making the most of them.

The English teenager has made two starts and three substitute appearances in the Premier League for City this season.

The City no. 82 has given one assist in two starts and one substitute appearance in the UEFA Champions League this campaign.

Lewis is a very versatile player who can operate as a full-back or defensive midfielder.

Pep Guardiola gives verdict on Rico Lewis

City manager Pep Guardiola has raved about the England Under-21 international.

Guardiola has said that he is very happy with Lewis and has stated that the teenager is going to end up playing as an attacking midfielder in the future.

The former Barcelona and Bayern Munich boss has noted that Lewis is not playing further forward in midfield due to the number of attacking midfielders in the City squad.

Guardiola told TNT Sports about Lewis: “That position, we started with Fabian Delph.

“We have incredible memories, [Oleksandr] Zinchenko played there, but Rico helps us do some incredible movements we’ve never seen before.

“Smart, intelligent player.”

Guardiola added: “I think his position will be attacking midfielder but for now we have a lot of intelligent players there.

“With him inside, we always had the opportunity to make our process and our game much, much better.

“Fantastic player, at this early age, he settled really quick and played really good.”

Rico Lewis is only 18 now, and I believe that he is going to get better and better.

That Guardiola trusts the teenager to play in a number of positions shows just how versatile he is and how highly the City boss rates him.

Being able to play in a number of positions is very important these days.

Lewis is just starting his career, and I believe that he could add more facets to his game and develop the ability to operate anywhere on the pitch.

Having a player who can operate in multiple positions is very important for managers these days.
