Manchester City have two of the best strikers in the world, Erling Haaland and Julian Alvarez, but Pep Guardiola’s side were still linked with Napoli star Victor Osimhen earlier this year.
Sky Germany journalist Florian Plettenberg reported in March 2023 that Manchester City were among the clubs who were keen on signing Victor Osimhen from Napoli in the summer of 2023.
Manchester City linked with summer move for Napoli striker Victor Osimhen
Plettenberg claimed that City had inquired about the Nigeria international striker.
No transfer happened in the end.
Osimhen is still at Napoli.
City went on to win the Premier League, the UEFA Champions League and the FA Cup last season.
The striker is one of the best in the world and was superb for Napoli last season.
The 24-year-old scored 26 goals and gave four assists in 30 Serie A starts and scored five goals in five UEFA Champions League starts last season.
Napoli won the Serie A title.
Victor Osimhen not happy with Napoli manager Rudi Garcia
The Naples outfit are not having the best of times at the moment, and Osimhen is making the headlines for the wrong seasons.
Napoli are already seven points behind leaders Inter Milan in the Serie A table.
Osimhen has scored three goals in five Serie A matches this campaign.
The striker was involved in controversy over the weekend.

Rudi Garcia’s side played out a goalless draw with Bologna away from home in Serie A.
Osimhen, who was described as “incredible” by former Manchester City striker Mario Balotelli on Instagram in May 2023, failed to score from the penalty spot.
When Garcia decided to take him off late in the game and replace him with Giovanni Simeone, the Nigerian striker gestured to the Napoli manager that he was not happy at all with the decision.
According to Football Italia, the Nigerian star was making gestures that suggested that he thought having two strikers on the pitch instead of one in the final stages of the game would have been more sensible.
It was not a very good look at all.
Can you imagine if a player did that to Pep Guardiola at Manchester City?
Of course, players are frustrated when they are taken off and managers have to listen to their opinion as well, but there is a time and a place to do it.
Garcia had already decided to bring off Osimhen.
The Napoli boss was not going to change his mind.
So, what was the point of the striker complaining, and that too in public?
According to Calciomercato, Osimhen has since apologised to Garcia, and the two are ready to move on.
Maybe Osimhen has learned his lesson.
