‘It’s understood’: Journalist says Man City now don’t want to sign ‘special’ 18-year-old star

Manchester City reportedly have no current plans to sign Brighton & Hove Albion striker Evan Ferguson.

Earlier this week, it was reported that the Citizens are interested in securing a transfer deal for Ferguson and play him alongside Erling Haaland.

Now though, one journalist has shared some fresh behind-the-scenes regarding this particular transfer story.

City have no plans for Ferguson transfer move

In a recent Twitter post, journalist Mike Minay had this to say on the matter.

He said: “It’s understood at this present moment Manchester City are happy with their striking options and therefore don’t feel the need to be looking for additions.

“Evan Ferguson has already been linked since the window closed but I believe there’s no such plans.”

After joining Brighton’s youth ranks from Bohemians back in the 2021 January transfer window, the striker has scored 19 goals in 42 youth appearances for the south coast club.

Having now made 33 senior appearances for the Seagulls, Ferguson has found the net 14 times and delivered four assists.

His latest appearance for Roberto De Zerbi’s side saw the Irishman score a hat-trick against Newcastle United in Brighton’s 3-1 win over the Magpies.

With all of that in mind, it’s easy to see why the centre-forward, who was recently tipped to become a “special” player by Gary Lineker, has been linked with a move to City and other clubs.

However, with Haaland and Julian Alvarez scoring a combined total of 69 goals across all competitions last season, it’s easy to see why the club are satisfied with the duo being their main strike options and don’t currently have a plan in mind to sign Ferguson.

Moving forward, if the Brighton youngster continues to score goals for his side on a regular basis, he could well find himself on the list of players that the south coast club have sold for significant transfer fees.
