Ivan Toney sends one-word message to Phil Foden after England’s win vs Netherlands in Euro 2024 semi-final

Ivan Toney coined a nickname for Phil Foden after England defeated the Netherlands 2-1 on Wednesday night.

Gareth Southgate’s side are now on the verge of history after beating Ronald Koeman and Co. in the semi-final of the tournament — with the English yet to win a European Championship in their history.

However, beating Spain and winning Euro 2024 could mean England end their 58-year trophy-drought after their famous World Cup win in 1966.

If the Three Lions manage to create history, names like Phil Foden will enter the country’s footballing folklore until the end of time.

The same can be said about the likes of Kyle Walker, John Stones, Bukayo Saka, Jude Bellingham and Ollie Watkins to name a few.

While Southgate’s side have been far from flawless in terms of their performances in Germany, it seems like a majority of their squad have played their role in helping them reach the final.

Foden certainly played his part with a top-class showing for England against the Netherlands — as Toney commented on his post-match Instagram post by coining a nickname for him.

The Brentford striker wrote: “Philadinho”, followed by a hearty-eyed emoji; a play on the Manchester City midfielder’s name and South American icons like Ronaldinho, for instance.

Brilliant to see Foden get such support from his England teammate after Netherlands win

While Foden has been widely slated for his showings at Euro 2024, it seems like his England teammates like Toney still back him to the hilt and perhaps his confident showing against the Netherlands was down to this amongst many reasons.

The £225,000-a-week man seemed eager to make a difference for his country as he constantly demanded the ball and threatened the Dutch defence; something he has not done as consistently throughout the tournament.

While previous winners of major tournaments have been crowned champions due to various reasons, one factor that certain plays a key part is a happy camp.

A senior player like Toney hailing Foden is a sign that the entire team is fully supporting whichever England player starts to come good.
