Jack Grealish won’t want to read what Man City fans are saying about him as Thomas Tuchel makes England call

Thomas Tuchel takes charge of his first England games this month, with World Cup qualifiers against Albania and Latvia.

It’s a new dawn for England. Thomas Tuchel is the man in charge and when he was appointed in October 2024, it proved a controversial call.

He has big shoes to fill as well. Gareth Southgate leaves after an eventful yet positive eight year stint in charge, reaching two major finals albeit without winning anything.

On Friday, Tuchel’s first England squad was named. But there was no Jack Grealish.

Man City fans agree that Jack Grealish doesn’t deserve England call up

Man City star Grealish has 39 caps for England and four goals. But the 29-year-old won’t feature for England this month, and rightly so in the eyes of many critical City fans.

Reacting to the news that Grealish was set to miss out, City fans posted: “Obviously duh”, and “this shouldn’t be news to anyone.” One Man City supporter added: “It isn’t a surprise though.”

A lengthier comment read: “Of course why would he [Tuchel] carry a flop there are better players in that position than him [Grealish].”

One City fan even wrote: “Useless player. Pep Guardiola should not decide signings. Worst City player ever.”

Another added: “Good, time for a reality check. He should also be left put of the City squad,” and a similar comment read: “Finished player, and l blame Pep for destroying all his confidence.”

Did Pep Guardiola finish Jack Grealish at Man City?

City fans certainly seem to think that Guardiola has played a big part in Grealish’s quite obvious downfall at Man City. And that’s a view that talkSPORT pundit Simon Jordan has suggested recently too.

Earlier in the year, Guardiola called for Grealish to regain his form from the treble-winning 2022/23 season. Jordan later said of Grealish at Man City: “I don’t think he’s a £100million footballer.

“Somebody paid a £100million for him. I don’t think Pep Guardiola possibly needed to say the things that he said about him two or three months ago, but perhaps they’re pressed on where Jack Grealish is.”

Grealish has recently had an injury and so being omitted from the England side gives him time to recuperate if nothing else, and time to rest ahead of the run in.

He can still play a crucial role for City and Guardiola could certainly do with a hero right now. Man City play Brighton at the Etihad on Saturday.
