James Milner has now responded after being asked who he preferred between Roberto Mancini and Manuel Pellegrini at Manchester City.
The 38-year-old spoke to Jeff Stelling on the Football’s Greatest podcast.
So, what did James Milner say about Manuel Pellegrini and Roberto Mancini? Let’s take a look…
What Milner said about Pellegrini and Mancini
Well, the Brighton No.6 was quite coy when asked who he favoured out of the Italian and the Chilean, hesitating to give a definitive answer – although his feelings are quite clear when you read between the lines.
Milner told Stelling: “Very, very different characters. One, quite emotional, flew off the handle pretty quickly, and the other one, pretty calm, very calculated, trained very different ways, defended in different ways. You feel lucky that you worked under these different styles. Yeah (there is one I preferred).”

As aforesaid, the answer is quite clear – in our view at least.
The adjectives Milner used to describe what is obviously Mancini hold negative connotations, while his apparent description of Pellegrini portrays the 70-year-old in a far more positive light.
It speaks volumes that the Yorkshireman seemingly prefers the South American – despite the fact he was left enraged by him after being dropped for the 2014 Carabao Cup final, just before his departure in 2015.
Mancini seemed like a hothead at Manchester City
The 59-year-old’s efforts helped bring a maiden Premier League title to Manchester City, although a number of comments made on podcasts do not reflect well on him.
Micah Richards recently revealed what really happened between Mancini and Carlos Tevez back in 2011, and it sounds like the Italian completely overreacted.

That story came after the 35-year-old also told a tale about how some players actually celebrated out loud when Mancini shared that he was departing the Etihad Stadium.
Nevertheless, Mancini has enjoyed a successful managerial career, which includes a UEFA EURO 2020 title with Italy – therefore, his methods can’t be that bad.
