Jamie Carragher has claimed that Ruben Dias is the best centre-back at Manchester City.
The 26-year-old, who joined the Manchester club back in 2020 from Benfica for £65m, won his third Premier League title over the weekend and could also get his hands on the FA Cup and Champions League before the end of the season.
The centre-back’s efforts throughout his latest league campaign for Pep Guardiola’s side have caught the attention of one pundit who shared their thoughts on the player.
Carragher heaps praise on Dias

Speaking on the latest episode of Sky Sports’ Monday Night Football show, Carragher had this to say about Dias after putting the City defender in his Premier League team of the season.
He said: “I think he’s been fantastic since he’s come into Manchester City. I really love him as a defender.
“Gary mentioned earlier in the show about Man City messing about with different formations and teams and players and I remember at times he wasn’t playing. I remember going to Tottenham away maybe one of the last games that they lost and he was sub.
“When he comes back, he’s got an intensity about him and he loves to defend. When I think of Manchester City’s best centre-back, I think of Ruben Dias, that’s the first person I think of.”
To highlight how impressive Dias has been in a defensive sense across his 26 league appearances, the Portuguese international currently has more clearances (56) than any other City player.
He also has the second-highest passing accuracy percentage in the squad (92.7%), showing how effective he is on the ball as well as off it.
Also, out of the 10 league games that Dias has not featured in so far this season, the Citizens were only able to keep three clean sheets.
This all backs up why Carragher highlighted the City figure as an impressive defender and one that deserves recognition for his endeavours this season.
